SAVI releases free Veterans employment toolkit for employers hiring Veterans
LOS ANGELES – The Strategic Alliance for Veteran Integration (SAVI), a Veteran-owned nonprofit based in California, is releasing a free toolkit for businesses that hire Veterans. The toolkit offers valuable tips and guidance for working with Veterans, from supporting those with disabilities to nurturing leadership qualities. National Hire a Veteran Day was on July 25. One of the critical pieces of the transition from military to civilian life is finding gainful employment.
“As a Veteran who had a difficult civilian reintegration despite more than six months of preparation; I know first hand the unanticipated struggles Veterans face when transitioning out of the military,” said Adrianne Phillips, Air Force Veteran and SAVI founder. “Going from a very structured environment to the endless possibilities of the civilian life can lead to a lot of issues that impact stability. Employers can help aide in this process by serving as a beacon of clarity, well structured options and a clear path to success.”
There are nearly 20 million Veterans in the U.S. today, with about 500 transitioning into civilian life each day. According to the Department of Labor, the Veteran unemployment rate in June was 3.2 percent, down from 3.3 percent one year ago.
In a study reported by KelloggInsight, researchers found that “military CEOs tend to make ethical, conservative decisions — and particularly adept at leading firms under duress.” Because they have been trained to respond in life or death situations, handling stress in non-life-threatening scenarios is much easier for them than it would be for the average civilian.
Some guidance offered in the toolkit include:
- How to create a culture of inclusiveness
- Ways to acknowledge military service
- Hiring tips for recruiting top Veteran talent

This month, the SAVI team is excited to announce some amazing upcoming events and volunteer opportunities as we kick off 2019.
Whether you’re a service-member, Veteran, family member, employer, VA staffer or even a Veteran advocate there is something valuable in this newsletter for you.
Get to Know SAVI’s Mission
The Strategic Alliance for Veteran Integration (SAVI) is a national nonprofit dedicated to providing federal benefits education and custom transition solutions to our nation’s military Veterans. We primarily work with Veterans transitioning into civilian life and the organizations that support them in this process. Our whole-person approach is different from any other program today and aims to provide comprehensive benefits understanding to every Veteran.
Kick Off the New Year
Our resolution for 2019 is simple – reach, educate and connect with at least 10,000 new transitioning Veterans and their families.
SAVI Benefits
SAVI is here to help Veterans with their transition from military to civilian life, which means we are dedicated to helping those who assist Veterans. If you’re a Veteran Service-Provider, VA Benefits Representative or work with Veterans in other ways, we’d like to work with you. Our aim is to solidify your confidence, understanding, and knowledge of all VA processes so the Veterans you work with aren’t left in the dark.
Veteran Service-Providers
As Veteran Service-Providers, you see first-hand the challenges faced by Veterans as they move into civilian life. We want you to feel prepared when you talk with Veterans about the transition process and their benefits. That is why we are thrilled to offer Benefits 101 and SAVI Transition Process training and certifications.
We understand that Veterans have many questions, many of which relate to benefits and entitlements. We want to ensure you can easily answer these questions and connect them to the appropriate next steps.

Post-Transition Education
As Veteran Service-Providers, you assist Veterans whether they have just transitioned out of the military or have been out for several years. SAVI is determined to assist as many Veterans as possible, and that’s why we want to work with you to put on a Post-Transition Education workshop event for your Veterans.

Adrianne Phillips is a service-disabled veteran, who founded Strategic Alliance for Veteran Integration (SAVI) as a reaction to the immense need for support of veterans transitioning to civilian life. After serving in the U.S. Air Force as a combat service-member and Security Forces, Adrianne transitioned out of the military and into civilian life. During this time, she realized that veterans often make the transition with little or no structural support or guidance. This prompted her to spend over 11 years working in the veterans benefit sector, including working in development, adjudication, training, presenting, quality assurance, and division management. In 2011, she started a corporation focusing on event travel management and corporate business travel. In 2017, she harnessed her experience as a veteran, benefits manager, and entrepreneur to found the Strategic Alliance for Veteran Integration with the goal of supporting every service-member’s transition.
