Where your money goes
SAVI operates on a cash budget under $50,000 a year. The full value of one Veteran's year of support, including the professional time our volunteers donate, is about $480. Here is how those two numbers fit together, and how you can check our work.

What your gift funds
Your gift funds federal benefits education and one-on-one transition coaching for Veterans. Today, it also builds toward the hire that limits everything else: our first full-time transition coach, who we estimate can carry a caseload of about 50 Veterans, compared with about four for a volunteer coach.
What a Veteran gains
The federal benefits a Veteran has earned can reach $500,000 or more across a lifetime when they are counted together: disability compensation, Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare, healthcare for eligible dependents through CHAMPVA, the Post-9/11 GI Bill, dependents' education assistance, Veteran Readiness and Employment, the home loan funding fee waiver, state property tax exemptions, and survivor benefits.
That figure is an illustrative maximum, not an average or a promise. Actual value depends on a Veteran's disability rating, dependents, and which benefits they use.
Our filings and registrations
Internal Revenue Service: SAVI files Form 990-N, the annual electronic notice for organizations with gross receipts normally $50,000 or less. It confirms SAVI's tax-exempt status; organizations at this size are not required to file line-item financials.
California Attorney General: SAVI is registered with the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers, registration number CT0260972. Verify our status by searching our EIN, 82-3598461, in the state's public registry (opens in a new tab).

Common questions
Why doesn't SAVI have a full Form 990?
Organizations with gross receipts normally of $50,000 or less file the shorter Form 990-N and are not required to file line-item financials. SAVI qualifies. The figures on this page are SAVI-reported.
Why doesn't $480 a Veteran add up to your budget?
Because $480 is the full value of a year of support, including donated professional time. About 200 Veterans at $480 is roughly $96,000 in value, and most of it arrives as volunteer time rather than cash. That is how SAVI delivers it on a cash budget under $50,000.
Will hiring a paid coach change the cost per Veteran?
Yes. Under our current volunteer model, a full year of support costs about $480 per Veteran. Under the paid coach model we are growing into, it costs about $1,500 per Veteran. In exchange, capacity grows: a volunteer coach can carry about four Veterans at a time, and we estimate a full-time coach can carry about 50. We will report the change openly.
